For such a small city, there are some exquisite restaurants in Bath – Giggling Squid, Absurd Bird and Sally Lunn’s to name a few. But like a magpie, I’m drawn to all things pink and floral so Sweet Little Things made it to the top of my list. 

Opened in June 2018, Sweet Little Things is Bath’s answer to the botany trend taking over Instagram opened by Mother-Daughter duo Fiona and Natalie Bonnici.

Showcasing Mum Fiona’s love of flowers and Daughter Natalie’s dab hand at café management as the owner of Cafe Au Lait, the mother-daughter duo wanted to bring something completely new to Bath. A sociable bunch, Bath has an overwhelming desire for afternoon tea and a catch up with friends, and so Fiona and Natalie set about offering tasty food and drinks in a pretty and different environment.

How to Find Sweet Little Things

Just ten minutes on the train, and under £10 for a return train ticket, Bath is the perfect Micro Gap from Bristol given its accessibility and affordability.

Less than ten minutes walk from Bath Spa train station – more if you get swept in to Typo and other high street gems – Sweet Little Things is conveniently located in the town centre on Lower Borough Walls.

With its central location, Sweet Little Things serves as the perfect venue for your girls day out, whether your after brunch, afternoon tea or just a little sweet treat. Even from the outside the window wisteria and the promise of cake draws you in.

The Afternoon Tea

I’m a self-proclaimed Afternoon Tea Connoisseur having tried and tested the wackiest and wonderful afternoon tea offerings including Beauty and the Beast, The Ritz and aboard a Vintage London Routemaster Bus (twice!) – so I like to think I know a thing or too about the British past time.

Dining with a friend who unfortunately can’t have gluten (from an actual doctor, not a self-diagnosis), Sweet Little Things accompanied the dietary requirements well, and it’s suffice to say that she was wildly impressed stating that they’re the best gluten free scones she’s ever eaten! My friend has sadly been on a quest for gluten free sweet treats for what seems like an age, so it’s great to find a version of her favourite foods she can actually enjoy. Vegan options are also available.

There’s a few options depending on your budget or taste preferences:

• Afternoon Tea £15.95pp to include; finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones with jam and clotted cream, cake selection and breakfast tea.
• Prosecco Afternoon Tea at £20.95 as above with a 125ml glass of prosecco.
• Gin Afternoon Tea £22.95pp as above with a single measure of your choice of gin and tonic.
• Cream Tea at £7.95pp to include freshly baked scones, clotted cream, strawberry preserve and breakfast tea.

We opted for the general afternoon tea and added on a Mimosa for £6.50.

Despite appearances, the afternoon tea was incredibly filling. While the sandwiches weren’t to everyone’s taste, the scones and cake selection more than made up for it.

Lunch, Brunch and other Munch

With other tantalising options on the menu, you’ll have a hard time choosing what to eat!

From speciality lattes such as turmeric and beetroot, milkshakes, smoothies and gin. Toasted sourdough with a variety of toppings, pancakes, smoothie bowls, waffles and more. There’s really is many a reason to visit the tea room, and not just for the Insta!

Due to an overwhelming response, the tea room has been extended to add an additional forty seats with an all new flower wall! Since they don’t yet have a website, bookings can be made via Facebook and Instagram.
